Season four of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives was filled with unexpected plot twists…but one plot line I certainly wasn’t expected was Mikayla Matthews and Jace Terry’s separation. Towards the end of the fourth season, Mikayla shocked everyone by announcing that she and Jace (who share four children together, the youngest of whom they just welcomed in July) would be taking some time apart, mostly due to Mikayla’s ongoing struggles with intimacy stemming from being sexually abused during her childhood.

Filming for the season wrapped in October 2025, and even though Mikayla and Jace still wore a couples costume for Halloween (they were Blair Waldorf and Chuck Bass, naturally), it was clear they still had work to do before they could move back in together. So the question fans have is: Where do Mikayla and Jace stand now?

During an exclusive interview with Cosmo ahead of the season four premiere, I asked Mikayla about her decision to step away from her relationship, and she noted that “the hardest part” in her healing journey has been being “able to focus on what I need to heal.”

As she explained it, “I’ve been going through this chronic illness for four years now, and I feel like I got to a point where I was like, ‘Okay, I think it’s time for me to be a little bit selfish and heal myself,’ because I’m not able to show up as…the best version of myself in my marriage or friendships.”

She added, “I think it was important for me to just…take that pressure off the intimate side of our relationship and focus more on, ‘Okay, what do I need to heal before I can put 100 percent into this?’”

Since filming on season four wrapped in October, Jace has made several appearances on Mikayla’s Instagram from family trips and holiday celebrations so…it would seem they’re back together and totally fine, right? Not quite.

Of her relationship with Jace now, Mikayla said they’re “definitely a work in progress,” adding, “We’re still working on it. I think it’s something we’re going to be working on for a while.”

She continued, “The intention of the separation was not to be separated forever. I mean, we have kids. I wasn’t going to go a day without my kids.”
